WHAT STUDENTS WILL LEARN

🎥 Module 1: Camera

  • How cinema cameras work (using the Blackmagic Camera app)

  • Focus & Framing: wide shots, closeups, and why they matter

  • ISO & Aperture: creating professional-looking scenes with light & depth of field

  • Camera Movement: pan, tilt, dolly—making shots dynamic and exciting

  • Editing in iMovie: turning footage into a story

  • How lighting brings a story to life

  • Key, Fill & Back lights: the building blocks of cinematic lighting

  • Creating drama with light: from classic noir to neon cityscapes

  • The art of the cinematographer

  • Lavalier mics: hidden microphones in costumes

  • Boom operation: capturing dialogue without getting in shot

  • Plant mics: sneaky tricks from professional sets

Meet The Instructor

Tim Adams is both a filmmaker and a teacher at heart. For the past 6 years, he’s worked in the sound department on hit TV shows including CBC’s Workin’ Moms, Coroner, and Roku’s Slip.

With more than 18 years of teaching experience in classrooms and workshops, Tim brings a unique mix of professional know-how and engaging teaching style. His approach blends curiosity, experimentation, and creativity—ensuring that every student feels supported while having fun learning the art of filmmaking.
